The Housing Assembly: Decent Housing for All

Faeza Meyer and Josie Abrahams, two women housing activists from the South African social movement the Housing Assembly, joined the Summer School on Wednesday evening as part of their UK speaker and documentary screening tour hosted by War on Want. The tour aims “to raise awareness and build global resistance against the violence of neoliberalism and its infringements on human rights including the right to shelter, housing and to dissent.”

The screening of the documentary The Housing Assembly: Decent Housing for All was followed by a group discussion which drew attention to the need for unions to engage with and actively be part of social movements, such as that of the Housing Assembly, and other movements which are fighting for dignity and justice beyond the workplace.
